The airline operated its inaugural service to AKL (via SYD) on 02 May 1976, with the route initially operated twice weekly using a Boeing 707.

Over the past 50 years, SQ says it has carried more than eight million customers on over 30,000 flights between SIN and airports in this country.

With its 11-year joint venture with Air New Zealand the two airlines now operate a combined 28 weekly services between the two countries.

This includes 21 weekly services on the AKL-SIN route that are jointly operated by SQ and NZ, and seven weekly services on the CHC–SIN route operated by SQ. For a short time a decade ago SQ also operated flights between Canberra and WLG and the carrier will also mark 40 years of flying to CHC later in the year.

SQ’s GM for New Zealand, Wilson Yong, says the milestone recognises both the airline’s legacy and its focus on the future.

“This anniversary not only celebrates our history, but it also reaffirms our long-term commitment to Aotearoa, connecting New Zealanders with the people and places they love.”

As of Apr, the airline’s wider group including Scoot, serves 133 destinations across 35 countries.
