AmaWaterways md ANZ Steve Richards again reiterated to the agents on board its inaugural agent charter cruise that one of the key reasons that Ama adapts not cancels its cruises is because of the high volumes of travellers from Australia and New Zealand who book river cruises well in advance.

“[The cruises] are usually part of a European tour, and people don’t fly all the way from Australia and New Zealand for just a seven-day experience. We don’t cancel, it makes it difficult for agents as their clients are completely affected.” Richards says it’s important to provide consistency and reliability as much as we can weather dependent’, and that the river cruise is usually a component of a bigger experience ‘so if it doesn’t go ahead people are really affected’.
