Weka Travel has launched a collection of trips, in response to demand, that it says are unlike anything else currently on offer.
Weka Travel has been creating hosted trips for other groups and agents over the past few years, but founder Josh Loughnan says there’s a demand for something in the same style of Weka’s FIT holidays.
Loughnan says the company does not want to go down the line of having a celebrity who hasn’t really been there and understood the destination.
Instead, each trip will have a Weka host alongside someone specific to the style of trip, who knows the destination ‘inside out’.
“We come from the point of view where we want to slow down and immerse, and in order to lead that trip you need someone who knows it.”
Agents can also combine the hosted trips with further travel, as Weka Travel can tailor pre- or post-trip options offering agents more earning potential, he adds.

To test this new trip style, Weka Travel took agents on a hosted trip to Bali, with the trip focusing on experiencing the island through local chefs, farmers, artists, wellness practitioners and communities.
Loughnan says the response from agents was overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the connection to Bali the trip offered.
This is the other point of difference with this collection, he adds, with its luxury offering focusing on a connection with the people and place being visited, rather than the hotel stay.
“It is something different, that no one else is offering.”
There are three trips currently on offer for 2027—Bali: From the Inside (Apr), Southern Spain: At the Right Pace (May) and Italy: Done Properly (Sep).
More trip details will be available from late Jul/early Aug.

Loughnan plans to expand the hosted offer in due course, and says he’s eyeing up destinations such as Japan, South America, Greece and Scandinavia.
