The World’s Most ‘Worth It’ Attractions

One insurer has released what it describes as the ultimate travel cheat sheet of tourist attractions after analysing more than three million traveller reviews of the world’s most expensive and hard to-reach attractions to find out whether they are actually worth it.

Coming in at the top of Insure&Go’s list, with the most reviews mentioning ‘worth it’ was Kings Canyon Lookout in Australia’s Northern Territory, accessible via a long drive through the Outback.

One in four reviewers say it pays off, especially for the Rim Walk, a 6km loop along the sandstone rim above 100-metre walls.

Ireland’s Skellig Michael Monastery sits in second, with tourists having to climb some 600 uneven stone steps to reach the sixth-century monastery in Kerry. Once again, more than one in four reviews say it’s worth it, with the climb itself often mentioned as part of what makes it special.

New Zealand’s Franz Josef Glacier Viewpoint was third, and The Great Wall of China’s Jinshanling Section on the outskirts of Beijing followed with reviews comparing it favourably to the busier sections.

Abu Simbel Temples in Aswan was fifth. Rounding out the top 10 was the Batad Rice Terraces in the Philippines, Australia’s Twelve Apostles, Switzerland’s Jungfraujoch (the highest railway station in Europe), Quiraing on the Isle of Skye and Moarine Lake, Canada. An honourable mention goes to Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb, sitting in 12th, and Uluru in 15th.

. . . Not Worth It

On the flip side, the Sagrada Familia in Spain was the least worth it attraction, followed by Italy’s Colosseum, the Eiffel Tower Summit and Louvre Museum in France and Park Güell Monumental Zone in Spain.

Also reviewed less favourably was England’s London Eye and Tower of London, the Empire State Building Observatory and Top of The Rock Observation Deck in the US, as well as Brazil’s Christ the Redeemer Statue. See more HERE.
