Holland America Line has added more than 30 Alaska Heritage Tours ahead of its 80th anniversary of sailing in the region in 2027, bringing together historic rail journeys, glacier excursions and wildlife experiences on selected cruises and Cruisetours.
The collection features excursions that have been part of the cruise line’s Alaska program since its early voyages in the 1940s, including experiences highlighting the region’s history, landscapes and wildlife.
Options include the White Pass Summit Scenic Railroad, which follows a route associated with the Klondike Gold Rush, and the glass-domed McKinley Explorer train through Alaska’s interior.
Other excursions include the Mendenhall Glacier Explorer in Juneau, a wildlife cruise in Kenai Fjords National Park and the Denali Tundra Wilderness Tour, which offers opportunities to spot animals in Denali National Park.
HAL’s Alaska Cruisetours, including itineraries covering Denali and the Yukon, provide access to the widest selection of Heritage Tours.
All Cruisetours include a journey aboard the McKinley Explorer and either the Denali Natural History Tour or Denali Tundra Wilderness Tour. Selected Yukon itineraries also feature the historic White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad, combining two rail experiences in one trip. Further itineraries offering Heritage Tours include Alaska Explorer and Inside Passage cruises, Glacier Discovery voyages beginning or ending in Whittier, and the 28-day Legendary Alaska Arctic Circle Solistice itinerary, which calls at Haines, Valdez and Anchorage.
. . . Beyond The Ship
The wider Alaska program includes more than 200 shore excursions, ranging from whale watching and bear viewing to cultural encounters and glacier exploration. Onboard activities include presentations from National Park Service rangers, regional experts, and local and native voices, alongside dining featuring Alaskan seafood. The anniversary lineup gives travel agents a range of options to combine coastal cruising with inland exploration.
