ServiceIQ has appointed aviation specialist Jonny Smyth (pictured) to lead its engagement with the sector as it looks to address skills shortages and prepare New Zealand’s aviation workforce for future technology and operational changes.
Smyth takes up the role of national account manager aviation, from Jan, armed with more than 20 years’ industry experience, including operational roles with Air New Zealand and leadership positions at Boeing-owned aviation technology company Wisk.
. . . Changing Market
His appointment comes as aviation faces evolving workforce requirements, with new aircraft technologies creating demand for different skills and training pathways. A licensed aircraft maintenance engineer, Smyth has worked across aircraft maintenance, operations, management and training.
At ServiceIQ, he will join with aviation employers, industry bodies, schools and training providers to identify emerging skills requirements, address gaps and develop relevant training programs.
Attracting new entrants to aviation, including more women, will also be a priority.
ServiceIQ executive director Tony Laskey says Smyth’s industry experience and knowledge of emerging technologies will help the organisation anticipate workforce needs and develop training that keeps pace with change.
Based in South Canterbury, Smyth will work with aviation organisations nationwide.
