Changes Coming To Fiji’s Gateway

Fiji Airports reports it is investing a serious amount of money into Nadi International Airport, as it looks to support the destination’s future growth, with a long-term vision to establish Fiji as a world-class aviation hub for the Blue Pacific.

Key to growth is connectivity, with the airport group telling Travel Today that it is working closely with Fiji Airways, other airlines serving Nadi, as well as government, tourism organisations and aviation partners to support additional capacity and new connectivity opportunities into Fiji and across the Pacific.

And it is investing money to retain and attract connectivity. Fiji Airports’ NAN airside masterplan identifies more than FJD1.5 billion in planned investment through 2034, this covering enhancements to airport capacity, runways, taxiways, aprons, terminal facilities, digital systems, emergency services and supporting infrastructure.

In addition, Fiji Airports says it has recently approved masterplans for NAN and Nausori Airport land side, which include building an aerotropolis, hotels, a commercial hub, a marina, and high-end apartments. This is estimated to cost USD3 billion.

“Nadi International Airport is Fiji’s principal international gateway, and as tourism and aviation demands continue to grow, our priority is to ensure the airport has the capacity, infrastructure and services to support that growth well into the future,” states Fiji Airports.

Sustainability is also a focus with projects such as the 3.25-megawatt solar farm at NAN, as is accessibility with Fiji Airport’s working closely with the Fiji Disabled Peoples Federation to make its airports more accessible.
