Kiwi awareness of Korea as a destination has grown significantly, and the Korea Tourism Organization is attributing this in part to increased air connectivity and agents.
The KTO’s local representative, Jeeyoon Lee, says agents have played a key role in turning interest into actual travel. The KTO data shows Kiwi visitation to Korea is up around 11% in May 2026, compared to May 2025, to a total of 4438.
“While many Kiwis are becoming familiar with Korea through food and culture, agents help travellers understand what the experience is really like and provide the confidence they need to book,” she says. The trade has also become essential in overcoming the information barrier, she adds, with many Kiwis not realising how seamless and accessible Korean travel is.
Korean Air now offers four flights a week between Auckland and Seoul Apr-Oct and daily flights Oct-Mar, with one-stop options also available with Asiana Airlines via Sydney and Jetstar via SYD or Brisbane, as well as through Asian airline partners.
. . . Year-round
The KTO says the Kiwi market is key because arrivals remain ‘impressively steady’ throughout the year rather than dropping off severely like other markets. The winter/early spring period of Jan and Feb is currently the quietest time for Kiwi visitation, but is still well worth recommending as it offers cold but clear weather and lower travel costs, says the KTO. Agents can recommend experiences over this time such as skiing/snowboarding in Gangwon-do followed by traditional Korean hot springs, says Lee. There’s also light and trout fishing festivals, as well as the chance to explore Seoul’s palaces and Hanok villages without crowds.
In Jun–Aug, Korea’s mid-summer/early autumn visitation is lower, due to summer heat and monsoon, yet Lee says it is ideal for specific indoor, cultural, and nature experiences. This includes island hopping in Jeju, and spending time at Korea’s grand museums and large-scale shopping complexes. For agents looking to upskill the KTO is hosting webinars, will be at the Asia Now roadshow, and will hold a Sep KTO trade event in Auckland.
