While travellers are being mindful of how they spend, Queensland is promoting year-round calendar of budget-friendly events, says Tourism and Events Queensland.

The Ampol Women’s State of Origin is on this month, with Game II at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium 14 May and Game III at the Gold Coast Cbus Super Stadium (28 May).
Tickets are via Ticketmaster and from AUD10pp. For clients looking to get into the outback, Julia Creek’s Dirt n Dust Festival 29-30 May, marks 30 years of outback celebrations, with adventure, rodeo, live music and the crowning of ‘Australia’s Best Butt’.
Adult weekend passes are priced from AUD70pp. Motorhead clients may enjoy the classic cars featured in Cooly Rocks On which is in the Gold Coast 03 Jun-07 Jun.
This festival cranks up the nostalgia throughout Coolangatta, and a lot of it is free, with premium experiences typically less than AUD50pp.
For the arty types, the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair (09 Jul-12-Jul,) is Australia’s First Nations-led art fair. It brings together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture with visual art, performances, music, fashion and storytelling.
It is free to enter and the showcase and marketplace access is from AUD55. Just 45 minutes north of Brisbane is the Abbey Medieval Festival 10 Jul 12 Jul, a full weekend of chainmail, turkey legs and jousting tournaments priced from AUD75pp.
The Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers (18 Sep-05 Oct) expects more than 190,000 flowers. There are plenty of free floral displays and ticket experiences under AUD100.
