Queenstown Airport reports it is planning the construction of a Code C heavy taxiway. A remediation and resurfacing of the airport’s main runway has also been planned.

Together, both projects will add up to a sturdy $60 million investment. ZQN ceo Shane O’Hare says the new taxiway will be constructed parallel to the main runway. “It will also reduce ground delays, and the length of time pilots are asked to fly a holding pattern while waiting to land, which will enhance safety and lower fuel consumption.”

Currently, aircraft used for scheduled flights to and from Queenstown Airport are required to backtrack along the main runway after arriving and before departure. ZQN project manager Greg Emms says a pre-construction services agreement has been signed with Fulton Hogan. “The project will be carefully staged to allow construction to progress while the airport remains open and operating.”
