oneworld has introduced streamlined digital check-in across its member airlines, to make it easier for those travelling on multi-carrier itineraries to manage their journeys through a single airline app.
Announced at the alliance’s Innovation Summit in Lisbon this week, the technology (said to be an airline alliance first) allows passengers to scan their passports, obtain boarding passes for flights operated by different oneworld airlines and save them directly to their digital wallets.
The enhancement applies regard- less of which member airline operates the first flight on the itinerary, it adds, helping eliminate the need for separate check-in processes when travelling across the alliance network. For example, a passenger flying from Kuala Lumpur to Dallas-Fort Worth via Tokyo on Malaysia Airlines and American Airlines can complete check-in through the American Airlines app. Boarding passes branded for each operating carrier are issued, allowing the passenger to proceed directly to bag drop or security, as appropriate.
Powered by oneworld’s proprietary technology, the platform enables member airlines’ systems to communicate across the alliance.

Malaysia Airlines is the first oneworld airline to adopt the new technology, with the capability now available across all oneworld carriers.
Future enhancements are expected to include check-in for codeshare itineraries and dynamic boarding passes with up-to-the-minute information.
The initiative forms part of oneworld’s broader strategy to simplify international travel and deliver a more seamless customer experience across its global network.
