Newly elected Air New Zealand director Campbell Wilson says the airline must be operationally consistent to be considered world class.
Wilson, who has spent most of his 30-year aviation career in the Singapore Airlines group, was asked at a shareholders’ meeting how NZ could be considered top of the pack like SQ. He says the airlines have very different models with NZ representing the country and carrying people to and from Aotearoa while SQ has more emphasis on taking people to other parts of the globe. But there were general lessons for NZ, which has a deep commercial alliance with SQ.
“I think any airline that aspires to be world class must have is operational consistency and execution consistency,” Wilson told the virtual meeting.
. . . 99% Support
Wilson says NZ is making good progress with operational delivery seen in improved OTP. Ensuring the customer experience consistently meets expectations denotes a world-class airline. Airlines also needed to continually invest in their network and product. Of the new directors, Wilson was elected to the board with 99.74% backing and NZ’s former cfo Rob McDonald was elected with similar support.
