More Kiwis Are Visiting Lake Tahoe

An increasing number of Kiwis are exploring North Lake Tahoe, and the destination’s tourism organisation is hoping this will continue, highlighting all that’s on offer in the state—on top of its ski resorts.

Last year some 813 Kiwis visited North Lake Tahoe, up 7% on the previous year, with Lake Tahoe Travel representative David McMahon saying there is something on offer each season for Kiwis in North Lake Tahoe.

“North Lake Tahoe spans two states and boasts two dozen beaches, 11 ski resorts, and hundreds of miles of travel,” says McMahon.

“This year round playground is an ideal setting for adventure-bound Kiwi travellers to reconnect with natural beauty.”

In winter, there’s cross country skiing, sledding and snowshoeing, with skiing also available in spring, while in summer agents can have clients hiking, biking, ziplining, stand-up paddle boarding and kayaking. Fall, however, is the season to recommend those looking to beat the crowds.

“Autumn is the secret season when summer crowds begin to lighten and the vivid autumn col ours line the sky,” says McMahon.

. . . Top Tips

Other top tips for agents selling North Lake Tahoe in 2026 from McMahon include having clients explore the 12 small towns scattered throughout the North Shore of the lake, each with unique resorts and experiences.

For those visiting in winter, McMahon recommends Wildside, the all-new snow tubing park at Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe.

It boasts up to 20 lanes and is helpful for those travelling long haul as no skis or boards are required.

As for getting to Tahoe, have cli ents fly into Reno, which is just 45 minutes away, or fly direct to San Francisco and drive from there, taking a four-hour trip following a scenic route.

For those who want to know more on North Lake Tahoe, McMahon says the tourism organisation will attend Ski Expos in New Zealand this month.
