Quebec, the Swedish Riviera and Montserrat are among the places to go in 2027, along with safari treks through Gambe National Park, sailing on a longboat to orangutan territory and a Route Napoléon road trip among the must-do experiences, in Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2027 list.
The annual list highlights the destinations and experiences travellers should look to next year. The destination list also features Australia’s the Tweed, New Caledonia (see more on pg 6), Japan’s Okinawa, Chengdu in China and Gujarat in India, Vietnam’s Danang and Fulidhoo in the Maldives.
For the more intrepid, Oman, Morocco’s R abat and Kenya’s Tsavo East and West National Parks made the list, as did São Tome & Principe in Africa. The publisher’s European destinations for 2027 include the Veneto in Italy, Germany’s Dessau, Šibenik in Croatia and Spain’s León.
In the Americas, the list features Canada’s Prince Edward Island, the US’s Maryland, New Mexico and California’s Coastal Redwoods.
Further south Argentina’s Bariloche and the lakes (pictured) made the list as well as, Granada in Nicaragua and Bocas del Toro in Panama. Dunedin and the Waitaki also feature.

Highlights of the top experiences for 2027 included art encounters in the Northern Territory’s Red Centre, such as its Aboriginal artists, outdoor painting and large-scale desert light installations.
Also making the list was Fa’a Samoa, exploring a foodie trail in Taiwan, trekking the Michinoku Coastal Trail in Japan, and ocean adventures in French Polynesia.
For the brave, taking a polar plunge in Antarctica also made the hot list.
Long-haul adventures to recommend include exploring Costa Rica’s Monteverde Cloud Forest and Ireland’s Killary Fjord, sailing the Aeolian Islands, flightseeing in Alaska, admiring architecture in Astana, riding the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway in India and walking the St Cuthbert’s Way to Lindisfarne in the UK.
Rounding out the Best In Travel 2027 list is a Galápagos expedition cruise, dancing a tango in Buenos Aires, a lightkeeper experience on Rhode Island, diving in Greece, hotel hopping in Miami’s South Beach, fine dining in Valle de Guadalupe, Abu Dhabi’s museums, and a slow road trip through Minnesota.
