Ireland, An Isle For Romance?

Tourism Ireland is shining a spotlight on the destination’s more romantic attractions, catering to those who want a honeymoon or couples getaway somewhere a little cooler.

In Dublin, the NTO recommends couples head to Whitefriar Street Church, which is home to the relics of St Valentine, and the National Gallery of Ireland, which houses what it calls the ‘most romantic painting’ in Ireland-Hellelil and Hildebrand, the Meeting on the Turret Stairs by Frederic William Burton. Dublin Horse Drawn Carriages is also highlighted, for a more romantic way of exploring the city.

Ireland is synonymous with pubs, and for a more romantic experience Tourism Ireland says to look for pubs offering traditional snugs, which are small, private seating areas. Some of the best can be found at Dick Mack’s in Dingle, the Crown Liquor Saloon in Belfast, and Hargadon’s in Sligo.

. . . Indulge

Highlighted spa options include The Elements Spa Trail at Finn Lough in County Fermanagh, where the treatment cabins are located in the lakeside forest. And for the foodies there is Private Kelly Oysters Tasting Experience in Galway Bay or Island Cottage Cookery School on tiny Heir Island, offering Lobster and pastry courses.

. . . Stays

Clients are spoilt for choice when it comes to romantic stays. For cottagecore vibes, The Lost Cottage in County Kerry offers a remote stay located on the edge of a lake surrounded by mountains, and at the Blackhead Lightkeepers’ Houses in County Antrim, where guests have views over the ocean and cosy fires.

For something more regal, the Castlemartyr Resort in Cork is an 18th-century manor house by the ruins of an old castle, which features a high-grade spa, two-Michelin-star restaurant and top golfing facilities.

An honourable mention also goes to the five-star Adare Manor (pictured) in County Limerick. See HERE.
