Intrepid: What’s Not Hot In 2027

Intrepid Travel’s 2027 Not Hot List is out and highlights the top lesser-known places to recommend to clients looking for a holiday with a positive impact.

First is Kenya’s Samburu National Reserve, which Intrepid says caters to those looking for a safari with fewer crowds.

It is home to lions, leopards, cheetahs, the reticulated giraffe, zebra, Somali ostriches, and more.

Clients can explore it on Intrepid’s 10-day Kenya Safari Adventure. Georgia’s Mestia, the main tourism hub for the country’s Upper Svaneti mountain region, has hiking routes for all skill levels as well as snow that’s said to be comparable to Aspen, or Hokkaido and is featured on the new Trekking the Transcaucasian Trail.

. . . Goodbye Crowds

For clients keen on Jordan, urge them to swap Petra and Wadi Rum for the Northern Highlands, an area home to Roman, Islamic and Ottoman history, hiking trails and forest reserves, which are highlights of its Jordan Uncovered trip.

Pitched as an alternative to British Columbia, Whitehorse is a gateway to Canada’s untamed Yukon Territory. Adventures here include 700kms of hiking trails, kayaking, bear-spotting, mountain biking, and Aurora Borealis viewing. It’s part of the Wild Canada & Alaska Itinerary.

Next is Alonnisos, one of Greece’s quieter islands. Instead of crowds, it’s home to Europe’s largest marine protected area and the country’s only underwater museum, which clients can see on Intrepid’s Sail Greece: Skiathos, Skopelos & Alonnisos trip.

In South East Asia Timor-Leste, is said to be of the region’s least-visited destinations, with capital Dili offering culture and outdoor experiences (on the Timor-Leste Expedition).

Sri Lanka’s 300km Pekoe Trail gets a mention for connecting the country’s natural and cultural gems, and is in Intrepid’s Hike Sri Lanka’s Pekoe Trail itinerary.

. . . Honourable

Honourable mentions go to Latvia’s Liepāja, billed as the Baltic alternative to the Mediterranean in 2027.

Carretera Austral in Chilean Patagonia, is ‘not hot’ for those looking at Patagonia’s Torres del Paine or the iconic Route 40 which passes through El Chaltén.

Then Dalsland in West Sweden has more than 2000 lakes set amongst lush forests, and a fraction of the tourists in Stockholm. See the full list HERE.
