New sales data released by Intrepid Travel shows the Middle East situation has impacted bookings, but also that sales are starting to look up again, especially for destinations that are closer to home.
Data for May shows Intrepid sales are down year-on-year from Australia and New Zealand, however, it reports steady month-on month improvement Mar-Apr and into May.
Forward indicators continue to strengthen with cancellations declining month-on month, it adds.
Importantly, says the data clients impacted by recent disruptions are still keen to travel, with demand increasingly shifting towards closer to home destinations such as Japan, Vietnam, Australia and Sri Lanka.
More specifically the 12-day Premium Japan ex Tokyo to Kyoto is one of its most popular trips at this point in time, as well as the nine-day Japan Highlights ex Tokyo to Osaka, and the 10-day Vietnam Express Southbound journeying ex Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City.
Breaking the close to home trend is the rising popularity of the eight-day Iceland Discovery, roundtrip ex Reykjavik to Hvolsvöllur Valley, Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon, Mödrudalur Valley and the Snæfellsnes Peninsula.
