The first grape vines were planted in the Hunter Valley in the 1820s and today it is NSW’s largest wine region with more than 150 wineries.

Know for its signature Semillon and Shiraz wine there’s also a variety of lesser-known options on offer in the region. Active clients can hike through National Parks such as Yengo National Park in the southwest, which has a 6km Yango Walking Track that follows an old logging trail through pristine forest.

A sunrise flight in a hot air balloon is said to be one of the most spectacular ways to explore the vineyards, floating above the neat rows of vines, farmland and tiny cottages.

For the gourmands there’s foodie tours, craft breweries, and boutique distilleries. Cheese and chocolate are two of the Hunter Valley’s best exports (second only to wine). The famed Hunter Valley Smelly Cheese Shop is stocked with local and international cheeses, and 36 Hunter Valley Gelato flavours.

Local craft beers, ciders and gins can be sampled at 4 Pines at the Farm, The Valley Brewhouse, Hunter Distillery and Pokolbin Cider House. See more on the Hunter Valley HERE.
