Helloworld New Zealand’s outlook for both the economy and travel remains encouraging, gm Chris Hunter told those at the weekend’s 2026 Frontliners Forum.
“While consumer intentions across many discretionary spending categories remain subdued, New Zealanders continue to prioritise travel, with demand for both domestic and international holidays remaining positive,” he said. “Travel is not being treated like just another purchase and for many it is something they anticipate, save for and protect.”
At the same time, Hunter told the delegates the travel industry is embracing AI to improve efficiency, but the real opportunity, he adds, is combining artificial intelligence with ‘agent Intelligence’, and using technology to do the heavy lifting while experienced travel professionals apply judgement, expertise and accountability. “Our Frontliners Forum is about investing in the people who make our industry exceptional,” Hunter said in his opening address. “… from AI and technology to personal development and sales excellence, we are equipping our advisors with the tools and confidence they need to grow their businesses and continue delivering outstanding outcomes for customers.”

Speakers at the conference also discussed the key influences shaping the future of travel retail from AI and authentic content creation to challenging delegates to take ownership of their attitude, performance and future success. Hunter concluded by stating “our core focus is on continuing to drive and support our networks with their outstanding margin and profitability performance in 2026 and continue this momentum in 2027.”
The Connect, Learn and Grow themed event included more than 200 representatives from the Helloworld branded associates, My Travel Group and The Travel Brokers networks and suppliers.
