Next year the US celebrates 200 years of train travel and Brand USA is encouraging visitors to take to the rails in 2027.
Brand USA president and ceo Fred Dixon says the bicentennial is a ‘timely invitation for travellers to slow down, look out the window, and take in the unique beauty of the USA mile by mile’.
Highlighted rail journeys include the Canyon Spirit which explores the American West between Denver and Salt Lake City (pictured) as well as the California Zephyr between Chicago and the San Francisco Bay Area, crossing the Rocky Mountains and Sierra Nevada, and the Coast Starlight between Seattle and Los Angeles travels via the Pacific Northwest.
The Empire Builder, between Chicago and the Pacific Northwest travels via Glacier National Park, while Amtrak’s Airo trains in the Pacific Northwest, allow clients to combine city stays with access to forests, mountains, wine regions and the coast. Those seeking more of a party are recommended Amtrak’s Mardi Gras Service, which links New Orleans with Alabama’s Mobile.
Brand USA also showcases options along of the Route 66 corridor, including Amtrak’s Southwest Chief, ex Chicago to Los Angeles via Alburquerque and Flagstaff.
For history lovers, there are journeys aboard restored trains such as the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad through the San Juan Mountains, Pennsylvania’s Strasburg Rail Road and West Virginia’s Cass Scenic Railroad exploring the Appalachian Mountains and New York State’s Finger Lakes Rail Experience.
