While much of the magic happens off the ship, delving into Egypt’s incredible history and exploring the iconic sights, Uniworld makes a deliberate effort to weave Egyptian cuisine and culture into the onboard experience.
The purpose-built S.S. Sphinx takes that to the next level, creating an ambience that’s more like a floating Egyptian boutique hotel, from the use of alabaster on the lobby floor and hand carved wood and ornate fixtures, through to the authentic Egyptian furnishings. It doesn’t feel dark or gimmicky, but it does feel like you’ve stepped into another world. As well as the hardware, Uniworld also offers the chance to experience local Egyptian cuisine during its mid-cruise celebratory galabeya night. Guests are urged to don traditional Egyptian dress, or a galabeya, for an evening which starts with sunset rooftop drinks, before a buffet dinner featuring traditional fare ranging from salads and falafel through to lamb and the famed Nile perch fish from Lake Nasser.
The night then finishes with some traditional music mixed with some western favourites.
