A major renovation and accessibility project will take place at Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer Aug-Jul 2027, says World Journeys.

The site will remain open throughout the works, but clients visiting should expect construction activity in several areas of the site, including scaffolding around parts of the monument and temporary changes to visitor circulation. Some views and photo opportunities may be obstructed at certain phases of the project.
The work will complete the replacement of the four existing escalators that connect the different levels of the visitor area, so during the project all escalators will be out of service meaning visitors will need to use regular stairways between levels.
A specialised lift system and dedicated assistance will be available for wheelchair users and guests with reduced mobility, with no extra payment or advance reservation required for these services.
The upgrade is part of a broader investment program aimed at increasing visitor comfort, safety and accessibility at what is Brazil’s most visited attraction. See more HERE.
