AmaWaterways is launching a new six-day Machu Picchu post-cruise extension for its Magic of Colombia itinerary, as part of its evolving product offering next year.
“Where AmaWaterways is heading is exciting,” says Ama’s md ANZ Steve Richards.
“Our guests are curious travellers who want to get out and experience the world, not just see it from a distance. We’re embracing that spirit of adventure and taking what people love about travelling with AmaWaterways beyond the river.”
Richards adds that experiences such as Machu Picchu are a natural evolution for the cruise line, adding to its unique South America offering “combining the colour and culture of Colombia with the wonder of Machu Picchu makes for an extraordinary journey, and one that’s well worth travelling across the world for.”
The itinerary includes stays in ‘extraordinary hotels’ with rail travel and local cultural experiences, offered with select 2027 sailings from Apr.
Then from 2028, it will be available as a post-cruise option for each Magic of Colombia sailing. Clients can choose between two hotel experiences, boutique or iconic.

The trip combines Peru’s coastal capital with the history and landscapes of the Andes. Clients will fly from Cartagena to Lima and on to Cusco and the Sacred Valley, before a privately guided Machu Picchu experience and rail journey.
“It is so exciting to add this highly curated experience to our offerings and reflects how AmaWaterways is evolving its approach to luxury river cruising,” says Ama ceo Catherine Powell. See more itinerary details HERE.
