A 13-suite property on a 51ha private concession bordering Amboseli National Park in Kenya is the latest boutique luxury offering from Abercrombie and Kent.

The Kitirua Plains Lodge opened last month and A&K says it is a homecoming of sorts as it was in this corner of Kenya that Geoffrey Kent took his clients on his first safari in 1962.

The lodge takes its cues from the Maasai principle of living in harmony with nature and there are 11 suites and two two-bedroom suites (pictured) with indoor and outdoor showers, freestanding bath and shaded private veranda. In the larger suites the two bedrooms are linked by a shared lounge.

Communal spaces include The Explorer’s Lounge with bar and dining area, which have sweeping views of the Savannah. The five-course à la carte dinners are seasonal and locally sourced.

Healing Earth, the award-winning South African spa house, has treatments aligning with Maasai traditions, double treatment rooms, an open-air yoga deck and a gym.

The lodge runs on solar power, with backup generator and inverter systems installed supporting the off-grid operation.

It has been designed to sit within an existing patch of wetland rather than displace it, and the wider concession has been managed in close partnership with the surrounding Maasai community.

Activities include game drives, dawn hot-air ballooning and visits to Maasai communities. Cost is from USD840pp per night t/s including all meals, beverages, game drives, airstrip transfers, laundry and emergency medical evacuation. See more details HERE.
