There’s been an outpouring of emotion from the trade today following the news that Alaska Airlines has axed Hawaiian Airlines’ seasonal services to Auckland.
HA (which is now officially AS) commenced services on the AKL-HNL route in 2013, which marked the beginning of a colourful chapter (literally) of operations run by a small yet tight knit team under Rusty Williss aka Captain Aloha, who finished up with HA last year. HA had confirmed plans to operate a thrice weekly seasonal service again over the coming Kiwi summer, but the AS group today advised that it is discontinuing services on that route.
It plans to now redeploy the aircraft to operate on its expanded domestic US routes.
Travel Today has fielded numerous calls and e-mails today, but we can confirm that Nick Dew’s role is unaffected by the move.
