Lonely Planet has this week declared New Caledonia as a must-visit Pacific destination in 2027, as a Kiwi trade delegation explores the nation.
New Caledonia was chosen as a Lonely Planet Best in Travel 2027 destination, for its unique blend of French and indigenous culture with scenes straight out of the wild west.
The news reinforces New Caledonia’s growing momentum as a short-haul Pacific escape for Kiwi travellers, combining French-inspired culture, nature and island experiences just a few hours from Auckland, says New Caledonia Tourism.
Highlights of the Kiwi agents’ itinerary included an outrigger tour in Upi Bay, lunch at Maitre Island, a day tour of the Blue River Park in the Great South with Toutazimout, dinner at Chai de l’hippodrome and visiting a selection of hotels.
The NTO says the Kiwi agents showed a strong interest in its nature, experiential and active travel offerings, especially for clients looking for something different from the traditional Pacific island holiday.
