Air New Zealand will refresh its board tomorrow with two new directors set to be elected at an online-only shareholders’ meeting.
Coming on board are Kiwi and former Air India boss Campbell Wilson and NZ’s former chief financial officer Rob McDonald, who has a detailed knowledge of how the business ticks.
Wilson was ceo of AI for four years and was the founding ceo of Scoot, the budget offshoot of Singapore Airlines where he also held senior roles including sales and marketing boss. He’s also served on airline association boards around the world.
Wilson is from Christchurch and after living overseas for decades is understood to be returning to Aotearoa.

Simon Russell ceo of Eagle Aviation Consulting welcomes the two new NZ directors. “Both bring skill-sets that are missing, and for quite some time, and the board now has improved airline bench strength,” says Russell.
There have been too many ‘generic’ board members in recent years, and airlines are very complex organisations, he adds. The new directors have the expertise to ask the right questions of executives. The online-only meeting has disappointed the Shareholders Association.
