Air NZ Highlights OTP Improvement

Air New Zealand is highlighting an improvement in punctuality during Aug, with 85.3% of flights arriving within 15 minutes of schedule – up from 83.1% in Jul and 81.8% the same time last year.

In a release, NZ says its international services recorded one of the strongest on time improvements, with 80.4% on time, up from 74.5% in Jul and 76.2% in Aug last year.

Punctuality on NZ’s trimmed back regional network reached 86.8%, up from 85.9% in Jul and 82.3% a year earlier, when it was operating more services.

Domestic jet arrivals recorded 85.3% OTP, up from 83.3%. NZ’s chief operations officer, ground and in-flight, Kate Boyer says Aug was a good step forward after a challenging Jul. The airline operated 13,053 flights across its domestic and international network during Aug.

The Ministry of Transport was, as of this morning , yet to post its own Aug on time performance (OTP) data, that includes all airlines.

. . Mishandled Bags

The Aug result also placed Air New Zealand fourth among Asia Pacific airlines (behind Singapore Airlines, Indigo and South Korea’s T’Way) for OTP in aviation analytics company Cirium’s monthly rankings.

Weather conditions eased from the winter peak experienced in Jul, which had almost twice as many weather-affected flights and around two-and-a-half times the weather-related delay minutes of Aug.

NZ says it has maintained a decade-long trend of low mishandled baggage rates. Preliminary results for the last year show 2.77 bags per 1000 were mishandled, around half the current global average of 4.9 per 1000.
