Birdwatching is the perfect pastime for the growth of the increasingly popular slow travel vacations, says Agoda, pointing out that Asia is home to some of the world’s premier birdwatching locations.
Keoladeo National Park in India is known as a birdwatcher’s paradise and has over 370 species of birds including the vibrant painted stork (pictured) as well as heritage sites the Lohagarh Fort, and Bharatpur Palace & Museum.
On Amami Oshima in Japan, twitchers can seek out the rare Amami thrush and Lidth’s jay while also enjoying the beaches and coral reefs of the subtropical island. Indonesia is home to the Tangkoko Nature Reserve which offers guided walks or mangrove boat tours to see birds like the Sulawesi hornbill and the knobbed hornbill. Khao Sok National Park in Thailand is a birdwatcher’s dream says Agoda, home to over 300 species including the great hornbill and the blue-winged pitta.
Jungle trekking and canoeing are also available in the park.
There are thousands of migratory birds at Suncheon Bay in Korea such as the hooded crane and visitors can also enjoy Suncheon Bay National Garden where there are 860,000 trees and 650,000 autumn flowers such as roses, sunflowers, and cosmos flowers. Finally, Agoda says Olango Island Wildlife Sanctuary in the Philippines offers an unparalleled birdwatching experience, with birds such as the endangered black-tailed godwit as well as tranquil beaches and marine life.
