Nepal Update & Trade Fundraisers

As recovery efforts continue following the devastating flash floods in Nepal, tour operators are stepping up.

Intrepid Travel has launched an emergency appeal through its not-for-profit, The Intrepid Foundation, and will dollar match all funds raised up to AUD200,000. Held in partnership with the Australian Red Cross, the funds raised will go towards impacted communities, including emergency shelter support, water sanitation and hygiene, first aid and health services. Yalamber Rai, gm Nepal at Intrepid Travel, says the scale of this disaster is devastating, and support will be critical to recovery efforts. See more details HERE.

At the same time World Expeditions has a fundraiser through the World Expeditions Foundation to support the communities impacted by the floods and their recovery efforts.

This will go live HERE.

The flash flooding has devastated communities in Timure, Rasuwagadhi, Syabrubesi and along the Trishuli River corridor, with more than 150 casualties, and hundreds still missing.

. . . Safe

No Intrepid customers or team members were in the affected regions at the time. World Expeditions too reports that its staff and clients are safe, with ceo Sue Badyari saying flooding occurred in an area that is not on the standard Everest trekking route. At this stage Badyari says it is too early to say what impact the event may have on future travel bookings. Both operators are continuing to monitor the situation.
