More than 150 Kiwi travel professionals have registered for the new Experienced Consultant Award (ECA) since its launch, says TAANZ, which is thrilled with the overwhelming industry response to its Workforce Development Programme.
The Experienced Consultant Award has been designed for established consultants, using a fast-track assessment process that recognises the skills and knowledge they have gained on the job. The assessment, says TAANZ, aligns with New Zealand’s broader approach to Recognition of Prior Learning and allows experienced agents and brokers to gain formal recognition without unnecessarily repeating learning they have already demonstrated throughout their careers.

TAANZ vp and chair of the TAANZ Workforce Subcommittee Jackie Bell says the response has exceeded expectations and reinforced the importance of investing in those who underpin the travel industry. “…TAANZ is focused on continually adding value for our members, and this initiative does exactly that—helping build capability within their businesses while also providing financial support to make professional development more accessible,” she says. “At the core of TAANZ accreditation are trusted experts. Our industry has an incredibly talented and experienced workforce, and the ECA provides an important opportunity to formally recognise that expertise.”
TAANZ ceo Julie White says the early response shows that workforce development remains a significant priority for members. “Travel is increasingly complex, and the knowledge, judgement and expertise of professional travel advisors has never been more important. This program is about recognising the capability that already exists within our sector, while continuing to lift the profile and professionalism of the travel advisor career pathway.” The first delivery of the program is expected to commence within the next three weeks.
