Air New Zealand says it is making strong progress when it comes to reliability, as it reports that its Jul on time performance is up significantly year-on-year.
Plus for those who are impacted by disruption, NZ is rolling out new auto-rebooking tech designed to make the experience less stressful.
NZ chief operations officer, ground and in-flight Kate Boyer says the carrier remains focused on reducing disruption in the first place, and when such events do happen, recovering quickly.
Last month 83.1% of NZ’s flights arrived within 15 minutes of schedule, up 6.4% on Jul 2025, with 246 fewer cancellations despite significantly more weather disruption, says NZ.
Boyer attributes the gains to a 41% reduction in reactionary delay minutes, with 1366 fewer flights affected by knock-on delays compared to Jul 2025. “The faster we can recover, the better chance we have of preventing that disruption from affecting customers travelling later in the day,” she says.
. . . New Tech
Some cancellations are unavoidable, and to keep the impact at a minimum, NZ has confirmed that its Automated Passenger Rebooking technology is being extended to international cancellations.
The tech, first introduced for domestic flights in mid-2025, allows clients with straightforward itineraries the ability to be rebooked in under 20 minutes, allowing NZ’s customer teams to focus on more complex itineraries. “Going from potentially hours to minutes for some rebookings is a huge improvement for our customers,” adds Boyer.
