Horse Trekking The Next Big Thing?

World Expeditions released its dedicated Horse Trek series last year, and says departures are selling out and that enquiries have nearly tripled in the past six months.

Sue Badyari, ceo of World Expeditions Travel Group, says it introduced horse treks to its portfolio in response to inter est from active and adventure travel enthusiasts.

“But nothing prepared us for the level of demand we are seeing for these treks,” she adds.

The 14-day The Central Mongolia Horse Trek, with three 2026 departures full or close to full, is followed by the 11-day Kyrgyzstan Horse Trek with page views more than tripling since launch and active users increasing by more than 250%.

Nepal’s 16-day Into Dolpo: Phoksundo Lake Horse Trek has followed a similar trajectory, with views more than tripling and active users climbing by more than 235%. It also notes that journeys in Chilean Patagonia and Argentina’s Tierra del Fuego are also steadily gaining momentum.

. . . Welfare

It is important for agents to note that World Expeditions has adopted formal animal welfare guidelines across all destinations. It says the horse treks have been developed in close collaboration with local partners and communities, ensuring best-practice care for animals and genuine benefits for host communities. The operator has opened 2027 horse trek departures for sales, with options across Argentina, Nepal, Chile, Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan. See HERE.
