Kiwis Are Keen On Exploring The USA’s Southern States

The US’ Southern states have been front and centre this week with the recent Travel South event, coming at a time when Gate 7’s Penny Brand reports that the Southern USA is continuing to resonate strongly with Kiwi travellers.

She says the response to the Travel South event was ‘incredibly encouraging’ with 80 agents attending, reflecting the continued Kiwi interest for deeper, more immersive experiences across the Southern USA.

“While iconic destinations like New Orleans, Nashville and Kiwis Are Keen On Exploring The USA’s Southern States Memphis continue to perform strongly, we’re also seeing increasing interest in lesser-known destinations such as Alabama, Mississippi, Missouri and South Carolina as travellers look to get beyond the traditional gateway cities to experience authentic food, music, culture and road trips,” Brand says.

She highlights the value the Southern US currently offers New Zealand travellers.

“Compared to many traditional long-haul destinations, visitors can experience world-class music, food, culture, outdoor experiences and luxury accommodation at a more accessible price point.”

The ability to enjoy multi-city road trips, unique boutique stays and authentic local experiences also resonate strongly with Kiwi travellers, she adds.

Travel South roadshow airline sponsor Delta Air Lines points out that from Auckland, it’s onestop via Los Angeles, with DL connections direct to New Orleans, Kansas City, Memphis and Raleigh. “Atlanta, DL’s largest hub, also offers extensive onward connections across the Southern states of the USA,” says DL’s Alison Hopkirk.

Brand says agents play a critical role in driving growth for the Southern USA. For those who were unable to attend the event, there are plenty of opportunities to learn more. See more on its partner hub HERE.
