Some countries and airports are suspending Europe’s new biometric Entry/Exit System (EES) processing after a ‘rocky roll-out’, says VisaAtlas’ Chris Hobbs.
“It’s a mixed bag and seems to depend on how prepared that airport or country is for the volume of passengers and the logistical requirements.”
There have been widespread reports of long queues as well as delays, with some customers missing flights as airports adjust to the new border checks.
According to widespread reports, Greece has reverted to passport stamping processes to reduce airport queues until at least Sep.
France, Germany and Belgium reportedly have temporary pauses on the biometric requirements during peak periods. While there’s reports of passengers missing flights due to long EES queues in Italy and Portugal, there is no official plans to suspend EES rollouts.
In the meantime, agents should urge clients to allow plenty of time for EU border processing, particularly in the summer peak.
