Longer Stays In Singapore Rising

More Kiwis are now heading to Singapore to explore and even cruise from, rather than as just a transit stop, says Infinity Holidays.

Ashleigh O’Reilly, the wholesaler’s marketing manager Australia & New Zealand says its total bookings to the Lion City are up 13% year-on-year while gross TTV is up nearly 30%, with clients increasingly booking Singapore as a destination in its own right.

These clients are typically staying for four to seven nights, she adds. “Once people experience it properly, they stop treating it as a layover,” say O’Reilly. “That change in perception is driving a meaningful part of our growth.”

The city’s world-class food, luxury retail, iconic attractions, and a rich cultural experience are all cited. Proximity and price are also said to be appealing to Kiwi travellers.

“Singapore is one of the most accessible international destinations for Kiwis, with direct flights from Auckland making it easy to reach,” says O’Reilly. “We’re also seeing a broader shift toward closer, high-value Asian destinations as costs to Europe and North America have risen.”

Cruising is another emerging trend, with O’Reilly saying Singapore is increasingly being used as a homeport.

Given the increased demand, O’Reilly also suggests that agents encourage clients to book early and use urgency. “The best hotels fill up fast, and prices firm up quickly,” she says. “Clients who plan five-plus months out get better rates and more choice.”

Other top tips include leading with food, culture, family experiences, and new openings rather than landmarks when selling Singapore, and ask clients when they last actually spent time in Singapore. “A dedicated four-night stay is often a revelation, and once they’ve done it, they come back.”
